ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is a traditional form of Oriental medicine, based on the understanding that the body is linked by energy pathways called ‘meridians’.  During an Acupuncture treatment, ultra-fine needles are inserted into the skin at specific points which correspond to organs, glands and other body structures, thought to stimulate the body’s power to heal.

Acupuncture is an important element in Oriental Medicine, which developed in China around 4,000 years ago and is used both to diagnose and treat illness.  Oriental Medicine is based on the theory that Qi – an invisible life energy – flows throughout the body.  Qi consists of equal and opposite qualities – yin and yang – and when these become disrupted or unbalanced, illness may result.  By inserting ultra-fine, sterile disposable needles into the specific energy channels, the acupuncturist can stimulate the body’s own healing response and help restore its natural balance.

Japanese Acupuncture techniques can be gentler, subtler and less painful than the techniques used in China;  the needles used are extremely fine.

Acupuncture can be used for pain relief (some women successfully rely on it during labour), as well for treating an incredibly wide range of disorders musculo-skeletal problems, arthritis, addictions, asthma, hay fever, depression, anxiety, allergies, migraines, nausea, high blood pressure, digestive disorders, women’s health (including urinary problems), and for promoting general good health.
