HERBAL MEDICINE

Herbal medicine is the use of medicinal plants in the treatment of disease and for the maintenance of wellbeing.  It is the oldest form of medicine known to man, and has given rise to many orthodox pharmaceutical drugs.  By using extracts of the whole plant, side effects often associated with chemically synthesised drugs can be avoided.

A professional medical herbalist is trained in the same diagnostic skills as an orthodox doctor and will also know of any interactions between the plant remedies and medicines that you may already be taking.

Herbal medicine involves the assessment and treatment of the whole person and the herbalist will take into account all areas of imbalance within the body, including the mental/emotional state when considering a treatment plan.

The initial consultation will last approximately one hour.  You’ll be asked to talk through your medical history, your blood pressure and pulse will be taken and you will be given any other physical examinations required.  A treatment plan will be discussed, which may include dietary or lifestyle advice, exercises or manual therapies where appropriate.  You may then be given a combination herbal extracts, dried herbs or topical preparations such as creams and ointments.  Subsequent follow-up  appointments generally last 30 mins.

Medical Herbalism has been found useful for following common complaints and conditions…
