HOT STONE THERAPY
The healing power of warmed stones has been recognised by many cultures for centuries. The deep heat of the basalt (river rock) stones penetrates the muscles, creating an instant sense of relaxation and ‘unkinking’ even the tightest knots. Mentally, the soothing warmth enables you to reach a state of relaxation within minutes of the stones being placed on your body. (This deep state of relaxation usually takes 15-20 minutes in a traditional massage.)
During Hot Stone Therapy, the smooth, hot basalt stones are placed on your body, which will be covered with a sheet or towel to protect from the full intensity of the stones’ heat. Warm stones may be placed between your toes/fingers. The stones themselves will also be used to perform soothing, long massage strokes – imagine being massaged with the heel of the hand. Because of their smooth surface, the stones glide easily over the skin, and the massage therapy maximises the use of the warm stones to relax your body at its deepest level. In addition, you may notice a healing improvement in the following symptoms:
• Muscular aches, pains, sprains and strains
• Poor circulation
• Rheumatic and arthritic conditions
• Fibromyalgia
• MS
• Back pain
• Stress, anxiety and tension
• Insomnia
• Depression
