MASSAGE

Massage has been used for thousands of years as a way of attaining and maintaining good health, and its benefits have long been recognised in many cultures throughout the world.  Therapeutic massage can be used to promote general well-being and enhance self-esteem, while boosting the circulatory and immune systems to benefit blood pressure, circulation, muscle tone, digestion and skin tone.

Massage can aid relaxation, directly affecting the body systems that govern heart-rate, blood pressure, breathing and digestion.  It can be especially useful for stress-related conditions such as insomnia and headaches, for muscle disorders such as arthritis and back pain, and for digestive disorders such as constipation.  While not a cure for specific complaints, the sense of well-being from massage can lower the amount of circulating stress hormones that can weaken the immune system.  Psychologically, massage releases tension and reduces anxiety so that you feel more serene and better-equipped to cope with the stresses of life.  Awareness of the way in which mind and body interact can be heightened, encouraging you to get in touch with the physical self in a world in which many of us ‘live in our heads’…

All massages at The Wellington Natural Health Centre (with the exception of Shiatsu) are given on adjustable wooden beds with a comfortable depth of foam, and you will be covered with a wool duvet and blankets/towels to ensure optimum warmth.  If you choose, the bed can be heated with a pad.  Your comfort is paramount at all times.  We suggest that you tell your practitioner if you feel any discomfort and she or he will ease the pressure.  You may choose to have your treatment in silence, or with relaxing music of your choice.
